Editing your video

Narrate with your own voice

SayScreen can narrate your videos in your own voice. Record a minute or two of yourself reading, and it clones your voice in a few seconds. Only your account can use it.

  1. Click Your voices in the sidebar, or Create your own voice at the bottom of any Narrator list.

  2. Under Create a voice, give it a Name.

  3. On the Record tab, click Start recording, read the script under Read this aloud, then click Stop. You can record more than once: every take is added.

Or, on the Upload audio tab, click Choose files and pick recordings of just you talking, with no music or other voices. A podcast, or the sound from a video of yours, works well.

  4. Check the total under Your recordings. You need at least 30 seconds, and a minute and a half or more is plenty.

  5. Tick This is my own voice, or I have the speaker’s permission to clone it.

  6. Click Create voice. It takes a few seconds.

Record in a quiet room, at the pace and tone you’d like your videos to have. If there’s hum or background noise, tick Clean up background noise. Leave it off for a clean recording, since it can soften one.

Your voice appears under Your voices in every Narrator list. It also becomes the starting voice for new videos in that browser, marked Default on the Your voices page. If you change that, Use for new videos makes it the starting voice again.

  • You can keep one voice of your own. Delete it to make another.
  • Each recording or file needs at least 2 seconds of speech and can be up to 40 MB. Only the first 5 minutes of a file are used, and up to 25 recordings go into one voice.
  • Audio files can be MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, FLAC or WebM.
  • Your recordings are deleted once the voice is made.

Click the trash can next to it and confirm. Videos already made with it keep their narration, but changing their words later needs another voice.

If you see SayScreen can’t use your microphone. Allow it in your browser’s address bar, then try again., do just that. If your browser can’t record at all, upload a file instead.
