Getting started

Make your first video

SayScreen makes a narrated how-to video of a website for you. You give it the page to start on and say what the video should teach. It works the site in a real browser, writes and voices the narration, and edits it all into a finished video with a smooth cursor and zooms.

Click New video in the sidebar. The page has three parts.

  1. In Start page, enter the address of the page where the lesson begins, such as https://app.yourproduct.com/projects. You can leave off https://. As you type, pages from your earlier videos are offered.
  2. If the page needs a sign-in, click Check access next to it and sign in. See Record a site that needs a sign-in.
  3. In What should the video teach?, describe the lesson the way you’d brief a colleague: the goal, the steps to show, what to stress or skip. See Write a request that gets the video you want.

The pills under the box fill in an example, such as Getting started or Dashboard tour. Clicking one replaces what’s in the box.

Choose the Narrator, the Speed and any Music. See Choose a narrator voice.

Choose the Ratio (16:9 Desktop or 9:16 Mobile), the background, window, zoom and the rest. The preview shows each change as you make it. See Change the look and add music and Make a vertical video for phones.

Then click Create video. The video’s page opens and you can watch it being made. See While your video is being made.

The next time you make a video, the voice and look you used last are already chosen in that browser.

The video appears on its page, ready to watch and download. From there you can:

The note beside the button says why:

  • Finish checking access first. A check or sign-in is still going.
  • A video is recording. You can start the next one when it finishes. Each account records one video at a time.
  • A message in red about your minutes or plan. See If a video fails or stops.
  • Pick a short task you know well, such as creating one thing in your app.
  • Start on the exact page where the task begins, after any sign-in.
  • Use a test account with sample data, so the video looks real and nothing real changes.
