Sites and sign-ins

Sites SayScreen can't record

SayScreen records with a browser on its own servers, not on your computer. So a page has to be one that anyone on the internet could open, given the right sign-in.

  • Your own computer: addresses like localhost or 127.0.0.1.
  • Private networks: addresses only your office, home network or VPN can reach, such as company intranets and internal tools, and names ending in .local or .internal.

For these you’ll see SayScreen runs online, so it can’t open localhost or private network addresses. Use your app’s public address. A company site that only works inside its network may show That address doesn’t exist. Check the URL. or Couldn’t connect to that site. Is it up? instead. The address of a file on your computer shows That address doesn’t exist. Check the URL. too.

To record an app that’s still in development, put it somewhere reachable from the internet first, such as a staging or preview address. Public addresses with a port number, and plain http:// sites, work fine.

Message What it means
That address doesn’t exist. Check the URL. The address has a typo, or the domain doesn’t exist on the internet.
Couldn’t connect to that site. Is it up? The site is down or refused the connection.
The site’s security certificate isn’t valid. The site’s HTTPS certificate is broken or expired.
The page took too long to load. The page didn’t load within 30 seconds.
  • The browser’s own sign-in box. Some sites, often staging sites, ask for a username and password in a small box the browser shows before any page loads. SayScreen can’t fill that in.
  • Passkeys and security keys. Choose another way to sign in, such as a password and a two-step code.

Everything else about signing in is in Record a site that needs a sign-in.

Some sites show a captcha or block browsers they think are automated, especially from servers. SayScreen can’t get past those: the recording stops and the AI says why. Check access only looks for sign-ins, so it can say No sign-in needed for a site that then blocks the recording.

If it’s your own site, record a staging or demo copy without the bot protection.

  • Upload or attach files, or download them.
  • Use your browser’s extensions, saved passwords or password manager: the browser is SayScreen’s own.
  • Go to other sites by address, unless your request names them. Clicking a link to another site works, and links that open new tabs are followed.
