Editing your video

Change the look and add music

Every video shows the site in a browser window over a background, with a smooth cursor, click highlights and zooms that follow the action. On the New video page you choose the look under Look, and the music under Voice & music. On a finished video, all of it is on the Look & voice tab. A live preview plays a short sample click in the look you’ve chosen, drawn the same way as the video.

Setting Choices To start with

Padding at 0 is full screen: just the page, filling the whole video, with no background, window, corners or shadow. That’s why Background, Window, Corner radius and Shadow are greyed out at 0.

Zoom moves the camera in on the page inside the window. The background and window stay still.

Keyboard keys and shortcuts the recording presses show at the bottom of the video, and can’t be turned off. Ordinary typing shows on the page itself.

The New video page remembers the look and music you used last in that browser.

Click the dashed Upload tile next to the backgrounds and choose a PNG, JPEG or WebP image, up to 25 MB and at least 640 by 360 pixels. One as big as the video, 1920 by 1080 (1080 by 1920 for a vertical video), stays sharpest. It fills the space behind the window, cropped to fit, and works for all your videos.

You can keep up to 30. To delete one, click the small X on its corner, then Delete. The X shows when you point at the background, and always on a touch screen. A video that was using a deleted background switches to Aurora the next time it’s updated.

There’s no plain color option: to get one, upload an image of that color.

Choose Calm, Bright, Lo-fi or Ambient, and press play to hear the first 20 seconds. The music plays quietly under the narration, comes up a little between lines, and fades in at the start and out at the end. Its volume can’t be changed, and you can’t add your own.

SayScreen makes these pieces itself, so there’s no music library behind them for anyone to claim.

  1. Open the video and go to the Look & voice tab.
  2. Make your changes. The preview shows the video’s own first action in the new look.
  3. Click Update video in the bar at the bottom of the window.

Changes on this tab aren’t kept until you click Update video. If you leave the page before that, SayScreen asks first.

Changing the look or the music doesn’t record or voice anything again, and doesn’t use minutes.
